What is Teen Patti and how is it played

Teen Patti is essentially a three-card poker-style game played with a standard 52-card deck. The game is played between three to seven players, and each player receives three cards face down from the dealer. The player with the strongest hand wins the entire pot.

The game is played against other players, not against the dealer — this is what sets Teen Patti apart from Baccarat or Blackjack. Each round starts with a boot (forced bet), then each player takes turns to call, raise or fold.

At sixs affiliate, Teen Patti can be played in two main formats: at live dealer tables, where a real dealer deals cards in real time, and at RNG-based tables, where you can play at any time.

Rules of a Round

Each round begins with the boot — a fixed amount that every player must place in the pot before play starts. Once the boot is placed, the dealer deals three cards face down to each player.

The betting round then begins. The player to the dealer's left decides first. They have three options:

  • Call (Chaal): Place an amount equal to the previous bet into the pot.
  • Raise: Place more than the previous bet — other players are then required to match that amount.
  • Fold: Withdraw your hand and drop out of that round.

A player can play "Blind" or "Seen". When playing Blind, you bet without looking at your cards and can place half the bet amount. If you look at your cards, you must place the full bet or more.

A "Show" or Showdown happens only when two players remain at the table. Either player can request a show for a fixed amount — both players then reveal their cards, and the one with the stronger hand takes the entire pot.

If the hands are tied, the player who requested the show generally loses. This subtle rule is important for new players to remember.

Hand Rankings and Scoring

The list below shows hands from strongest to weakest. Memorising this order makes it easier to decide quickly during play.

Rank Hand Name Description
1 Trail / Three of a Kind Three cards of the same value — such as three Aces. The highest hand.
2 Pure Sequence Three consecutive cards of the same suit — such as ♠️ A-K-Q.
3 Sequence / Run Three consecutive cards of different suits — such as ♠️9, ♥️10, ♣️J.
4 Flush / Color Three cards of the same suit, but not consecutive.
5 Pair Two cards of the same value — such as K-K-5.
6 High Card Does not fall into any of the above combinations — compared by the highest card.

Against the dealer or against other players?

Classic Teen Patti — player vs. player

In traditional Teen Patti all players compete against each other. The dealer only deals cards and does not take a side in the game. Bluffing and psychology matter much more in this format, because you are playing against real people, not an algorithm.

Multiplayer Bluffing

2-1 or Dealer Variant — player vs. dealer

In some variants players compete directly against the dealer's hand. There is less room for bluffing here, but the strategy is simpler — you just need a strong hand to win. This format is much more straightforward for new players.

Dealer Variant For Beginners

Both formats are available in the Live Casino section at sixs affiliate. Players who prefer fishing games or slots can also switch games easily on this platform.

Useful Tips for Beginners

Teen Patti is relatively quick to learn, but playing well takes some experience. Many new players in Dhaka lose money quickly at first because they are not clear on hand rankings or betting rules when they sit down at the table.

  • Start at small tables: Practice at tables with a low boot first — bigger bets can come later.
  • Play Blind first: Betting without looking at your cards requires a smaller bet amount — useful for beginners.
  • Bluff carefully: Bluffing can work, but doing it too often lets others catch on.
  • Watch the pot size: Think twice before folding when the pot is large — but do not hold on stubbornly with a bad hand.
  • Be careful about Show: Before requesting a show, remember that if it is a tie, you lose.
  • Set a budget: Decide how much you will play with before each session and stick to that limit.

Popular Variants

Several variants have been built on the core rules of Teen Patti, each presenting the game with a slightly different twist.

Classic Teen Patti

The original version — multiplayer, with Blind and Seen betting. This is the version played most in Bangladesh.

Original Version

Joker Teen Patti

One or two wild cards (Jokers) are added to the deck and can be used in place of any card — increasing the chances of getting a Trail.

Wild Card

Muflis (Reversed Rankings)

In this variant the rankings are reversed — the weakest hand becomes the strongest. It is quite popular among experienced players.

Reversed Rules

AK47

Ace, King, 4 and 7 cards act as wilds — the name comes from these four cards. Both the pace and the excitement of the game increase.

Multiple Wilds

Teen Patti 20-20

Two separate hands are dealt at the same time, and players bet on which one will win. The game is fast and decisions are straightforward.

Fast Format

Hi-Lo Teen Patti

The player predicts in advance whether the next card will be high or low — a correct prediction pays a bonus. Ideal for quick games.

Table Etiquette and Session Management

Being a good player is not just about getting a good hand — how you conduct yourself at the table and how you manage your session matter just as much.

Wait for your turn

At a live table, always wait for your turn. Avoid commenting on other players' decisions.

Set your budget beforehand

Decide how much you will spend in each session before you start. Once you reach that limit, stop — there will always be another day to play.

Keep your emotions in check

Expressing frustration in the chat after a losing streak or abruptly leaving the table are not good habits. Make decisions calmly.

Do not chase losses

Placing bigger bets to recover lost money often leads to even bigger losses. Accepting a loss and taking a break is the smarter move.

Treat the dealer with respect

At a live table the dealer is a professional. Use respectful language in the chat with them.

Take regular breaks

Playing for a long stretch reduces focus. Taking short breaks every hour keeps your decision-making sharp. You can find more advice on the Responsible Gaming page.

FAQ — Teen Patti

"Blind" means betting without looking at your cards. In this case you need to put in half the current bet amount. "Seen" means betting after looking at your cards — then you must put in the full amount or more. A blind player cannot request a sideshow, but can respond to another player's raise by doubling it.

Only seen players can request a sideshow. A seen player can offer a sideshow to the seen player just before them. Both players compare their cards, and the one with the weaker hand must fold. It is a strategic way to reduce the number of competitors at the table.

A Pure Sequence (also called a Straight Flush) is stronger, because getting three consecutive cards of the same suit is much rarer. A regular Sequence has three consecutive cards but of different suits — it sits at number 3 in the rankings.

When both hands are of the same type, the card values are compared. For example, if both have a Pair, the higher Pair wins (K-K beats J-J). If the Pairs are equal, the third card decides. If that is also equal, under classic rules the player who requested the show loses.

Three Aces (A-A-A) is the highest Trail and the strongest hand in the entire game. After that comes K-K-K, then Q-Q-Q, and so on. A Trail is also called a "Set" or "Three of a Kind" in many places.

At sixs affiliate Live Teen Patti tables there are usually side bets alongside the main bet — such as Pair Plus (you win if your hand is a Pair or better), or a bet on a specific hand type. Side bets pay more but have lower odds, so beginners should focus on the main bet first.
